Vol. 535 No. 3

Written Answers - Report of Registrar of Friendly Societies.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

50 Mr. Stagg asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will make a statement on the recent annual report of the Registrar of Friendly Societies; the reason the 1999 report was not published until April 2001; and when the report for 2000 will be published. [12202/01]

The principal reason for the delay in publishing the 1999 annual report related to difficulties experienced in securing a final, printed version prior to its submission to Government. In the ordinary course of events, my wish would be to see the report published by, at the latest, the final quarter of the following year, bearing in mind that the registrar is obliged, by section 106 of the Credit Union Act, 1997, to submit the report to me by September. In relation to the 2000 report, therefore, the objective of all those involved in its production will be to meet that target.
