Vol. 535 No. 3

Written Answers - Insurance Ombudsman.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

90 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she proposes any changes to the Office of the Insurance Ombudsman; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12693/01]

A statutory ombudsman scheme for all financial services is due to be established as part of the measures announced by this Government on 20 February last, in relation to a new, unified regime for regulation of the financial services sector. Consultations are taking place between the Department of Finance and the Council of the Insurance Ombudsman on the future of the present insurance ombudsman scheme, which is promoted and funded by the insurance industry itself.
