Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - Medical Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

190 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a post-mortem was not carried out on a person (details supplied) in County Mayo, following her death as a result of a road traffic accident. [12943/01]

The provision of medical services, in this instance, is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board.

I understand from the Western Health Board that having reviewed this case the board has advised that this case should have been referred to the coroner but regrettably through an error was not.

The board has written to the coroner and advised him of the position and to solicitors acting on behalf of the family apologising for the mistake.
