Written Answers - Dublin-Monaghan Bombings.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

247 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, having regard to public disclosures of a claim of privilege and the withholding of certain documents in relation to allegations of illegal attempts to import arms in 1970, he will confirm that all relevant papers and material held by his Department have been furnished to Mr. Justice Barron of the independent commission of inquiry into the Dublin, Monaghan and Dundalk bombings and that no such claim of privilege has been invoked or decision taken to withhold any information, statements or material held by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12855/01]

I can confirm that no papers in my Department have been withheld from the inquiry.

Question:

248 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in regard to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 43 of 12 April 2001, he will now expedite the establishment of a family service support centre for the bereaved families and wounded survivors of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings and provide appropriate funding, especially having regard to the forthcoming resumption of the inquests into the deaths in Dublin and the planned hearings by the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12856/01]

The Government is conscious of the particular needs of the wounded survivors and bereaved families of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings. In that context, and in addition to the work proceeding on developing an implementation plan in respect of the recom mendations in the report of the Victims Commission, an application received from the Justice for the Forgotten group for assistance towards a family support centre is currently under urgent examination.
