Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - EU Directives.

Nora Owen

Question:

97 Mrs. Owen asked the Taoiseach the EU directives relevant to his Department that are awaiting implementation; the nature of the directives; when they were passed by the Council of Ministers; the final date for implementation; and if this deadline will be met. [12999/01]

Where my Department is concerned, there are a number of directives that require the provision of statistics by the Central Statistics Office, which comes under my Department's aegis. There is no obligation to transpose these directives into national law. However, statutory instruments have been made under the Statistics Act, 1993, when considered necessary to collect the data needed to ensure compliance with the relevant directive.
