Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - Illegal Fishing.

Ivor Callely

Question:

107 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the level of illegal fishing in Irish waters over the past 24 months; the additional measures which can be put in place to prevent recurrence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12772/01]

In the two-year period up to the end of March this year, there were 115 detentions and 400 warnings issued in respect of suspected fisheries offences.

There is ongoing liaison between my Department, the Naval Service and the Air Corps to ensure the effective and efficient deployment of available fisheries protection resources to monitor and control fishing activity in the Irish zone.
