Question:

142 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a senior member of staff of the Irish Red Cross Society will be leaving the organisation at the end of May 2001; if he has been approached with a view to agreeing a severance package for the individual concerned; if his attention has further been drawn to a separate constructive dismissal case recently taken by another former senior employee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12965/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 140 and 142 together.

As I have already indicated, the Irish Red Cross Society is an autonomous body with full powers to manage and administer its affairs through its governing body, the Central Council. I have no function in the administration of the Irish Red Cross and do not get involved in the running of its affairs.

My Department has not been approached regarding a severance package for any staff member.

Question:

141 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence if he will give a breakdown of the grant-in-aid of £509,000 to the Irish Red Cross Society in 2001; the total number of staff employed at the headquarters of the society, broken down by each Civil Service grade; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12964/01]

The grant-in-aid allocated to the Irish Red Cross Society for 2001 is £509,000. This allocation is provided for staff salaries and related expenses for 14 permanent posts in the society's headquarters and salary and related expenses for a staff member on full-time secondment to the Directorate for Asylum Seekers Services, Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. A sum of £479,000 is allocated for headquarters staff and £30,000 for refugee support services.

The breakdown of grades at headquarters is as follows:

Principal Officer (Higher Scale)

1 posts

Assistant Principal

1 posts

Administrative Officer

2 posts

Higher Executive Officer

1 posts

Executive Officer

2 posts

Staff Officer

2 posts

Clerical Officer

5 posts

There are additional staff employed by the society from time to time who are not funded by the grant-in-aid from my Department.
