Written Answers - Crime Detection Rate.

Tony Gregory

Question:

189 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the average detec tion rate for house break-ins during 1998 and 1999 for Dublin and nationally. [13085/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, during the year 1998, the national detection rate for burglaries was 35.1% and that the detection rate in Dublin was 40.7%. I also understand that, during the first nine months of 1999 – the period for which statistics are available – the proportion detected nationally was 31.2% and that the detection rate in Dublin was 34.8%.
