Vol. 535 No. 5

Written Answers - Official Engagements.

Liz McManus

Question:

77 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on his address to the 10th Junior Command and Staff Course at the Military College in the Curragh, County Kildare on 27 April 2001. [12925/01]

I welcome the interest shown by the Deputy in this issue.

My address to the 10th Junior Command and Staff Course was given at the invitation of the Military College in the Curragh. In my address I provided a comprehensive overview of Irish involvement in peacekeeping and crisis management activities and outlined the context in which the Government will decide upon any future Irish contributions to UN and EU crisis management activities. I also confirmed that the Government remains unambiguously committed to Ireland's policy of military neutrality.

I have arranged for a copy of the speech to be placed in the library of the Houses of the Oireachtas.
