Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - Nuclear Plants.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

20 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 40 of 27 March 2001, the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate has advised the RPII in relation to its investigation into the failure of staff to respond to alarm signals in the Sellafield complex on 20 January 2001, and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13164/01]

I understand that the UK's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate has informed the RPII that it is satisfied that BNFL has taken adequate steps to prevent a recurrence of the January incident which triggered the alarm system and of any delay in responding to an alarm alert at the BNFL plant.
