Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - Defence Forces Property.

Jack Wall

Question:

84 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the position of his Department in relation to claims by sheep farmers on the Curragh; the meetings his officials have had with such claimants; and the plans his Department has to deal with the matter. [13384/01]

The position is that the restriction on the grazing of sheep on the Curragh was imposed as a precautionary measure against the spread of foot and mouth disease on the advice of the local district veterinary office of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. Flocks will be permitted to resume grazing on the Curragh as soon as that Department advises that the restriction may be lifted. No formal meetings have been held with sheep owners in this connection.
