Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - Grant Application Procedures.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

88 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the measures which he will take to notify area aid applicants in the disadvantaged area categories of the change made to the scheme; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many area aid applications submitted are incorrect because of this change. [13366/01]

A summary of the main changes and other important points to note for area aid applications in 2001 was issued to each farmer with the area aid application, terms and conditions and help sheet. Farmers were informed that if they wished to apply for the new area based compensatory allowance scheme they should put an X in box 2 on the front of the area aid application form. The closing date for receipt of area aid applications was 27 April 2001. It will not be possible to quantify what problems have arisen or to decide on what corrective action will be necessary until the applications have been examined.
