Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Pub Licences.

Michael Ring

Question:

254 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the number of six day and seven day licences there were in County Mayo for the year 2000; and if he will provide figures for 2001 to date. [13674/01]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the number of publicans' licences issued in County Mayo as at 30 September 2000, and 10 May 2001, was as follows:

Seven Day

Six Day

30 September, 2000

592

9

10 May, 2001

494

7

As the licensing year ends in September each year, there are a number of licences for the current year which have not yet been renewed. This accounts for the difference between the September 2000 and May 2001 figures.
Of the figure of 592 mentioned, seven were converted from six to seven day licences in the period prior to 30 September as a consequence of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2000. Similarly, of the figure of 494 mentioned above, five were converted from six to seven day licences during the current licensing year.
