272 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the total number of admissions to long stay beds in the most recent year for which data is available, distinguishing admissions for long stay and for respite care and between units run by health boards, voluntarily and privately. [13534/01]

The total numbers of admissions to long stay units, including public, voluntary and private, in the year 1996 were as follows:
