Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Local Authority Housing.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

347 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason sanction has not been given by his Department for the development of housing schemes to a housing association (details supplied). [14010/01]

I understand the Deputy is referring to a project, at Town Park, Charleville, County Cork, which it was proposed to carry out with assistance under my Department's rental subsidy scheme. An application for a loan for this project was received by my Department from Cork County Council on 30 January, 2001. The project was examined in my Department and the local authority were advised on 7 March last that the proposal, as submitted, was unsuitable for social housing. My Department's main concerns relate to design aspects including site access and the proposal to convert ground floor offices to apartments with no provision for rear gardens or yards.
