Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Brendan Daly

Question:

442 Mr. Daly asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the new second level school for Lisdoonvarna, County Clare; if he will approve the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13621/01]

The question of the provision of a new school building to replace the existing post-primary accommodation at Mary Immaculate secondary school, Lisdoonvarna, is being actively examined in the planning section of my Department at present. As part of this process, all relevant factors, including the future viability of the school, enrolment and demographic trends in the area and developments in neighbouring centres, are being taken into consideration. I have asked my officials to finalise this examination as soon as possible, following which a decision on the matter will be notified to the school authorities.

Question:

443 Mr. Daly asked the Minister for Education and Science when work on the new second level school for Kildysart, County Clare will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13622/01]

Officials in the building unit of my Department are currently examining the combined stage 4-5 submission – detailed design and bill of quantities – in respect of the project in question. When complete, and if found to be satisfactory, the matter of allowing this project go to tender will be determined.
