Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Capital Projects.

Dick Spring

Question:

109 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Defence the capital projects being undertaken by his Department regarding the provision or development of sports facilities for the Defence Forces; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13798/01]

The following capital projects to provide-develop sports facilities for the Defence Forces are currently under construction: (a) new swimming pool and refurbishment of existing gymnasium at the Defence Forces training centre Curragh Camp, County Kildare – the complex is expected to be completed in late June 2001; (b) new gymnasium at Collins barracks, Cork. Work has commenced and it is expected that the gymnasium will be completed in early November 2001.

The ongoing repair and maintenance of sports facilities for the Defence Forces is an integral part of my Department's building and engineering programme. The cost of the above projects are £6.1 million and £1.95 million respectively which underlines my commitment to providing the Defence Forces with modern state of the art facilities.
