Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Coastal Erosion.

Seán Barrett

Question:

153 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will allocate the funds necessary to deal with the coastal erosion problem at Shankill, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13581/01]

Primary responsibility for coastal protection rests with the property owner, whether it is a local authority or private individual. My Department does not have any current proposals from the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in respect of works at Shankill, County Dublin. Any proposals which the local authority may wish to submit to my Department will be considered in the context of the available funding and overall priorities for coastal protection works in forward years.
