Question:

214 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide a breakdown of Garda strength by county; the percentage of gardaí who are stationed in towns with a population of over 1,000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14161/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of gardaí to individual areas, that the Garda divisional, district and sub-district boundaries do not correlate to county and town boundaries and, as such, it is not possible to supply the information sought by the Deputy in the format requested. The personnel strength, all ranks, of each operational Garda division, as at 1 May 2001, is as follows:
