Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

109 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will undertake to put in place a single national quality assurance scheme for food and food products; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14068/01]

Brendan Smith

Question:

113 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the food quality review group will report; the mechanism which will be put in place to follow through on its recommendations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14048/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 109 and 113 together.

The expert group established to review quality assurance schemes in the food area and to make recommendations on achieving greater coherence and clarity in this context has furnished its report. In line with the group's terms of reference, the report contains a number of key recommendations. I am currently considering these recommendations and will make a public announcement on this matter very shortly.

Question No. 110 answered with Question No. 96.
