Vol. 536 No. 4

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

195 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a person (details supplied) in Nigeria will be granted a visitors visa to visit her family here; if so, when the visa will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14514/01]

The visa application in question was refused because it had not been established, on the basis of the documentation supplied to my Department, that the applicant would observe the conditions of a visit visa. In particular it was felt that the applicant had not displayed sufficient evidence of her obligations to return home following her proposed visit.

The applicant's reference in Ireland was informed in writing of the reasons for refusal. An appeal against the refusal was received but the visa appeal's officer, having re-examined the application, upheld the original decision.
