Question:

114 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the antibiotics which are authorised to be used on growth promoters in animals; and if he has satisfied himself that these antibiotics are never liable to be used to treat disease in humans. [14501/01]

The antibiotics authorised to be used for growth promotion purposes in animals are availamycin, monensin sodium, salinomycin sodium and flavophospholipol. Antibiotics from these groups are not to date used in human medicine.
