Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Royal Canal.

Willie Penrose

Question:

165 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance if he will request the Office of Public Works to take immediate steps to prevent leakage taking place from the Royal Canal into a person's holding (details supplied) adjacent to the canal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14654/01]

Responsibility for the Royal Canal now rests with Waterways Ireland, a North-South Implementation Body for inland waterways which was established on 2 December 1999 on foot of the British-Irish Agreement, with whom the matter might be raised. Accordingly, the Office of Public Works does not have any function in this matter.
