Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) – the delay in dealing with applications for pre-1953 pensions; (2) Deputy Stanton – the imminent sale of the assets of the Irish National Petroleum Corporation Limited; (3) Deputy Hayes – the need to introduce a special package of measures at the earliest possible time to help schools in disadvantaged areas to keep and attract teachers; (4) Deputy Upton – the need to improve the occupational therapy services on offer to older people at a centre (details supplied); (5) Deputy Keaveney – the need to explore ways in which employment difficulties in Dublin can become employment opportunities for Donegal; (6) Deputy Shatter – the need for a new Garda station at Muff, County Donegal and the abandonment of the station by gardaí due to its being unfit for habitation; (7) Deputy Brendan Smith – the loss of 70 jobs at Bailieboro Foundry Limited, Bailieboro, County Cavan; (8) Deputy Michael Moynihan – the matter of group sewerage schemes and the necessity to increase this grant from £1,600 per person to £6,000, in line with group water schemes; (9) Deputy Higgins (Mayo) – the ongoing failure of the Department of Education and Science to make available the necessary specialist teaching resources for the 13 year old who only has the reading age of an eight year old; (10) Deputy Perry – the need to make funding available for the conservation of the O'Hara carriages which are due to be transferred to the transport museum in Sligo; (11) Deputy Kirk – the need to reconsider the compensation levels paid to depopulated sheep farmers in the Cooley Peninsula, particularly in view of the serious lack of income prospects confronting producers in the area in the next year or two; (12) Deputy Conor Lenihan – the need for legislation to deal with the problems caused by transient Travellers; (13) Deputy Crawford – the need to take immediate steps to increase the numbers of cattle over 30 months that can be slaughtered at our export meat factories as the present numbers allowed are causing a serious crisis for many beef farmers; (14) Deputy Bradford – the need to introduce special measures to deal with the crisis arising from the fire at the Kepak factory, Watergrasshill, County Cork.

The matters raised by Deputies Keaveney, Upton, Perry and Shatter have been selected for discussion.
