Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Diabetes Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

202 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he proposes to take in view of the recent comments made, that a new strategy for the development of diabetes services here which could be completed in less than six months, could save the Department of Health and Children up to 80% of the £300 million spent on diabetes care every year. [14713/01]

I presume the Deputy's question refers to the report of the St. Vincent Declaration action group, which was established by the Irish Endocrine Society in 1995 as a result of the St. Vincent Declaration of 1989, which I have recently received. That report made a number of com ments and recommendations in relation to the primary, secondary and tertiary care of diabetes sufferers. These will be considered in the context of developments in these sectors.

Question No. 203 answered with Question No. 99.
