Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

269 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will reconsider funding for the completion of the green route in south County Dublin; and if his attention has been drawn to its urgency as a feeder to the southern cross motorway due for completion in August 2001. [14675/01]

South Dublin County Council's non-national road grant allocation of £5.698 million for 2001 is a 26% increase on the 2000 allocation and a 55% increase on the 1997 allocation. The council submitted four applications for funding in 2001 under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme, including an application for the green route. This application, together with all other applications under this scheme was considered in my Department, having regard to compliance with eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects and the funds available for the scheme in 2001. In the event this project was not among those projects totalling £1.735 million, which were selected for funding in south Dublin in 2001. Allocations in relation to the 2001 non-national roads programme have been fully made to all local authorities. However, it remains open to the South Dublin County Council to seek to provide for this project from its own resources or to prioritise it for a funding application under the specific improvement grants scheme in 2002.
