Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

282 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if Sligo Corporation sought funding and approval to carry out an environmental impact assessment on the Sligo W2 route in December 2000; the reason no decision has yet been made on the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14732/01]

Sligo Corporation sought approval from my Department earlier this year for the appointment of consultants for the planning of the W2 route; no application for the funding of this scheme has been made. My Department recently advised Sligo Corporation that it had no objection to the appointment of consultants as proposed and that the costs of these consulting services would, in principle, be accepted against any future grant for this scheme in the event of a successful application being made by the corporation under the EU co-financed specific improvement grant scheme.
