Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

John Perry

Question:

295 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo and have her transfer granted to the social welfare offices in Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14766/01]

In accordance with formal procedures agreed between the Civil and Public Service Union which represents clerical officers and the Department of Finance, the names of officers applying for transfer to a provincial location are entered on my Department's central transfer lists in the order in which they are received. Vacancies which arise in provincial locations are then filled by reference to these lists.

The officer in question accepted an offer of appointment, made by the Office of the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners, for a permanent position in the Dublin offices of my Department and took up an appointment in Dublin on 10 April 2001. She applied for transfer to Sligo on the same day and her name is noted on the central transfer list for Sligo since that date. There are a number of people ahead of this officer on the Sligo transfer list. In accordance with the agreed arrangements, these officers would have to be considered for transfer first in the event of a vacancy arising in the Sligo office of this Department.
