Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Television Project.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

309 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the part she played in making the case for having the television series (details supplied) produced here; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14908/01]

I understand that the then Screen Commission of Ireland, which was the agency charged with the promotion abroad of Ireland as a film location, now operating within the Irish Film Board structure, had extensive discussions with the promoters of this project regarding the possibility of the project locating here. My direct participation consisted of meeting the promoters to highlight the advantages of Ireland as a film location, and to assure them that in the event of the project locating in Ireland, every possible assistance would be given by the relevant agencies. I also arranged meetings with the Taoiseach and the Minister for Defence which I attended. The producers ultimately decided to locate the production in the United Kingdom.
