Question:

311 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands further to Parliamentary Question No. 213 of 16 May 2001, the work which has been carried out by Dúchas in Waterford to date in 2001; the other work it is proposed to carry out during the remainder of 2001; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Scaffolding has been erected at Reginald's Tower to allow the external repointing to commence. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The wind vane has been removed from the roof for conservation and following this it will be replaced and roof repairs carried out as required. A glass door has been fitted to the entrance of Reginald's Tower.

Cleaning and repair of grave slabs and carved stone has taken place at the French Church and preparations have been made to upgrade access to this monument, to be completed this year and allow disabled access. Material for inclusion on information plaques has been researched and these plaques will be erected this year. A feasibility study on the roofing of the tower at the French Church will be carried out later this year.

A preliminary engineer's inspection of the Double Tower took place in 1999. Shoring and propping within this tower will be carried out this year to facilitate further inspection after which a works programme for the tower will be drawn up.
