Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

72 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself that the leukaemia trust fund at St. James's Hospital is adequately funded. [14867/01]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust. I am advised that the trust operates from St. James's Hospital and is a registered charity. Accordingly the trust is responsible for its own fundraising activities. I am further advised that the trust is providing valuable support to the hospital system towards the development and delivery of services, together with research into the treatment of leukaemia disorders, including bone marrow transplantation.
