Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

347 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Desertserges national school, Enniskeane, County Cork is on the INTO list of sub-standard school buildings; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the accommodation and facilities are seriously sub-standard, and that apart from emergency temporary arrangements to alleviate the current health hazard and accommodation pressure, a new school is necessary and has been planned; and if he will now confirm approval for a new school building in order that the necessary arrangements therefor can get under way [14655/01]

My Department has received an application from the management authorities of Desertserges national school, Enniskeane, County Cork, for grant aid towards improvement works.

In view of the large number of school building projects being dealt with by my Department's building unit at present, is not possible at this stage to indicate when approval will be given for the works.

The school authorities will be informed when it is possible to proceed further with the application.

Ivan Yates

Question:

348 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has received the stage III documentation for the provision of an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Wexford; the current position on this project; when approval might issue to the school in order that they can proceed with planning permission for these urgent and necessary works; and if he will make a statement on the current stage of this project. [14671/01]

My Department has received a stage III submission for the provision of improved accommodation at the school referred to by the Deputy. The case is being dealt with as quickly as possible having regard to the large number of school building projects being processed by my Department at present.

It is not possible at this point to say when construction will commence.
