Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

362 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 463 of 3 April 2001, he will state the progress which has since been made in relation to the provision of a school bus service for the person concerned. [14758/01]

A report has recently been received from Bus Éireann in the matter. The pupil in question is not eligible for transport as she is not attending her appropriate school for transport purposes. The most that my Department can offer is concessionary fare-paying transport subject to there being room available on a service after all eligible pupils have been accommodated and provided no extra State cost is involved by way of extending or altering the bus route. It is not open to my Department to allow an extension of route in this case as the pupil is not eligible for transport.
