Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Ellis

Question:

383 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allow the extension of school transport for persons (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [14953/01]

My Department has recently received a report regarding an extension of the school transport service for the pupil referred to by the Deputy. The family reside 0.7 miles from the route of the existing bus route, which is considered to be well within current guidelines. The family have applied to have the service extended and paid for by themselves. It is not possible to grant this payable extension at present, as it would pose a problem time wise on the service operating to another school. However, it may be possible to implement this extension from September 2001. This is being considered and the family will be contacted in the matter as soon as possible.
