Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

78 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health and Children if, in view of the extended delay in the investigation being carried out by the Medical Council's Fitness to Practice Committee into the high level of caesarean hysterectomies in our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, he will outline the action he intends to take to deal with this situation and to establish the situation in regard to this practice; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14796/01]

The matter raised by the Deputy is at present being investigated by the Medical Council in accordance with its statutory functions as set out in the 1978 Medical Practitioners Act.

I will await the outcome of the council's deliberations prior to deciding what further measures may be required in this case.
