Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Seán Haughey

Question:

387 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will arrange for the planning and building unit of his Department to call to a primary school (details supplied) in Dublin 5 to determine where an approved extension and prefabs should be built; if he will determine the way in which various leaks in the school should be addressed; if the communal central heating system for this and adjoining schools can be sep arated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14974/01]

My Department is currently considering the most efficient and cost-effective way of providing improved accommodation at this school. However, in view of the large number of school building projects currently being processed by my Department, it is not possible at this time to give an indication as to the timetable for the provision of the facilities. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.

Question:

388 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the extension to Carrick-on-Shannon Community School, County Leitrim. [14986/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the management authority of Carrick-on-Shannon Community School has agreed to the schedule of overall accommodation. A senior inspector from my Department will shortly visit the school to determine the schedule of suggested future use of existing accommodation and, if necessary, prepare a schedule of residual accommodation. This schedule represents the additional accommodation needs and, when agreed, permits the appointment of a design team to begin the planning process.

Question:

389 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the extension to schools (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [14987/01]

The same management authority manages all of the schools to which the Deputy refers. Two of the schools' schedules of overall accommodation were sent to the management authority some time ago for agreement and a response is awaited. In the case of the third school, my Department's planning unit has recently projected the long-term enrolment figures for the school and schedule of overall accommodation is being prepared which will shortly be issued to the management authority for agreement.
