Vol. 536 No. 6

Written Answers. - Court Procedures.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

116 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position in relation to the court poor box; and if it is intended to remove from a District Judge the decision to use the poor box when he or she deems it appropriate. [15031/01]

I understand from the Law Reform Commission that an examination of the court poor box will form part of the commission's second programme which was approved by the Government on 19 December last. In the circumstances I will await the report and recommendations of the Law Reform Commission before considering what, if any, legislative proposals should be brought forward on this matter.
