Vol. 536 No. 6

Written Answers. - Euro Changeover.

John Perry

Question:

138 Mr. Perry asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will make a provision to compensate retailers for the significant cost incurred by them in the euro changeover; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15197/01]

There are no plans in place to compensate retailers for the costs incurred from the euro changeover. The costs in connection with the changeover are likely to be in the areas of staff training and computer hardware-software. These costs will fall into the category of costs ordinarily incurred in carrying on a business and as such the normal tax rules for calculation of business profits will apply.
