Vol. 537 No. 2

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of related notices of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputies Gay Mitchell and Neville. I propose to call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. I first call on Deputy Mitchell to state his matter.

I wish to seek the Adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent public importance which requires immediate attention, namely, the failure of the Minister for Health and Children to inform the Dáil of the detail of the conflict of interest which has arisen in the membership of the Laffoy commission consequent on the referral to the commission of the issues of vaccine testing on children in the care of the State and how the expansion of the commission's membership might affect issues which have already been heard by the commission.

I wish to seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent public importance which requires immediate attention, namely the expansion of the terms of reference of the Laffoy commission to cover the matter of vaccine trials and how these may impact on other issues already before the commission.

Having considered the matters fully, I do not consider them to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
