Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Willie Penrose

Question:

191 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance if he will give approval for the construction of a new Garda station at Ballymore, County Westmeath; if so when; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the proposals for this construction have been received by the Office of Public Works; if his attention has further been drawn to the poor condition of the existing Garda station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15915/01]

A sketch for the erection of a Garda basic unit at Ballymore, County Westmeath, was approved by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in April 2001. Planning consultation documentation is currently being prepared and the planning consultation process, which takes six weeks, will commence in June 2001. It is hoped to place a contract for the construction work in September 2001.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

192 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if the top priority afforded to the acquisition of a site for the new Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare, has resulted in a successful purchase of a site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15941/01]

A preferred site has been identified for the provision of a new Garda station at Leixlip. Detailed negotiations are ongoing with the owner of the site and the Commissioners of Public Works are hopeful of a successful outcome.
