Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Strategy.

Bernard Allen

Question:

261 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the decisions made at the recent Cabinet meeting held at Ballymascanlon, County Louth. [16033/01]

No formal decisions were taken at the Government meeting to which the Deputy refers. The purpose of the meeting was to present an overview of the health services, which encompassed the historical background, the current situations and projections into the future.

As the Deputy is aware, a new health strategy is being prepared involving a broad consultative approach. The all day meeting on health policy provided an opportunity for the Government to be updated on progress so far and to give preliminary consideration to some of the major issues arising. Where specific Government decisions are requested, I will take proposals to Government for formal consideration in the normal manner. The entire health strategy will be submitted to Government in due course.
