Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Refugee Status.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

353 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that since his arrival in Ireland six months ago, a person (details supplied) has been assisting the Mid-West Development Education Centre in presentation of workshops in human rights education and in translation services; if he will take these factors into account in determining this person's application to remain here on humanitarian grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15914/01]

The person in question arrived in the State on 3 November 2000 and has applied for refugee status. If this person is not granted refugee status he will be entitled to submit to me reasons he should be allowed to remain in the State in accordance with section 3 of the Immigration Act, 1999.

I can assure the Deputy that factors such as those listed by him in this particular case will be taken into account by me under section 3 of the Immigration Act, 1999, when determining the person's application to remain in Ireland on humanitarian grounds.
