Question:

69 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to the comments contained in the recent report of the National Archive Advisory Council which suggested that the unacceptably low level of staffing was the greatest limitation faced by the National Archives; the latest position in her discussions with the Department of Finance regarding the provision of additional staff; when it is expected that additional personnel will be recruited to bring staffing up to an acceptable level; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Seven additional staff have recently been sanctioned for the National Archives and plans are in train to fill these posi tions as soon as possible. Discussions are continuing, however, with the Department of Finance regarding other staff sought.
