Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Noel Ahern

Question:

147 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will clarify the situation in relation to funding from his Department to various programmes, groups, LE schemes, young persons' facilities and service fund and child care groups; if he will ensure that such funding is allocated to its specified purpose; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16502/01]

I can inform the Deputy that my Department provides funding to organisations in relation to a wide range of schemes.

In all cases the funding is provided for specific purposes and the organisations concerned must account for how the funding is used. In the case of funding of a significant amount, each organisation is required to produce annual audited accounts or details of how the money was spent. The Deputy will also be aware that any group which receives in excess of 50% of its income from the State is subject to inspection by the Comptroller and Auditor General.

In addition to these conditions, there may be publicity requirements such as acknowledgement of the source of the funding and the display of the logo of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform or that of the national development plan. Where funding is co-financed by the European Union, this must also be acknowledged.
