Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Flood Controls.

Austin Currie

Question:

81 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a report or reports from South Dublin County Council regarding the flooding in Lucan in November 2000; if so, the action intended to prevent a reoccurrence of the flooding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16341/01]

The Office of Public Works has received a report from South Dublin County Council regarding the unprecedented flooding at Lucan in November 2000, which has been estimated to be in excess of a 100 year flood event. The contents of this report, are being reviewed with a view to determining what assistance, if any, Office of Public Works might be able to offer to South Dublin County Council in this matter. In view of the complex matters raised in the report, some of which are outside the functional remit of the Office of Public Works and some of which are being investigated further by the consultants for the local authority, it is not possible at this stage to indicate what action(s) might appropriately be taken to prevent a reoccurrence.
