Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

157 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding the proposed development works at Kilkierran Pier, Connemara, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17142/01]

Kilkierran Pier, Connemara is owned by Galway County Council and responsibility for its repair and maintenance rests with the local authority in the first instance.

As the pier is located in a Gaeltacht area the question of funding development works at the pier is a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. I understand that Galway County Council has engaged consultants on behalf of the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to carry out a feasibility study on the development of the pier.
