Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

137 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Defence if he can confirm that there are no proposals for the reduction of facilities at Kickham Barracks, Clonmel, County Tipperary; the works to be undertaken to improve facilities at this barracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17875/01]

There are no plans to alter the current status of Kickham Barracks, Clonmel. Tenders are being issued for return mid-July 2001 for extensive refurbishment of the existing north block building in the barracks as office accommodation for the directorate of reserve forces and the directorate of training. Both directorates are moving to Clonmel from Defence Force headquarters in Dublin. It is expected the work will commence in September 2001 and will be completed in May 2002.
