Vol. 538 No. 4

Written Answers. - CIE Property.

Liz McManus

Question:

38 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if CIE has indicated to her the specific lands to be disposed of following the review and subsequent update on CIE's surplus property portfolio; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18065/01]

The disposal of any specific property is a matter for the board of CIE to determine, and is a matter in which I have no function. However, as the Deputy is aware, consultants carried out an independent review of CIE property in 1999 and, in the light of developments in the property market since then, they provided my Department with an update on their findings in October 2000.

In the light of that review, I understand from CIE that they are examining a range of options including the sale and development of property as a basis for the generation of capital for investment in the major infrastructure development plans set out in the national development plan. The plan makes provision for CIE contributing to the financing of projects from within its own resources. I understand the board has not yet taken any specific decisions in regard to the disposal of any specific properties.
