Vol. 538 No. 4

Written Answers. - Nuclear Plants.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

45 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans she has to harness the considerable public support which exists for legal action to be taken with a view to halting the operation of the new £300 million nuclear fuel reprocessing plant and closing Sellafield safely and entirely. [18089/01]

I refer to my reply today to Priority Question No. 27. I agree with the Deputy that there is considerable public concern about the UK's nuclear facilities, in particular the Sellafield operations and the proposed mixed oxide fuel fabrication plant for Sellafield. Accordingly, I have no doubt there will be support for the action I propose in this regard and which I announced last week.
