Vol. 538 No. 4

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

92 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will direct a health board to grant aid reconstruction works for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [18298/01]

The provision of housing modification grants for people with physical disabilities is solely a matter for the Department of the Environment and Local Government and they are provided through the relevant local authority. It is not a function of the health boards to provide funding for such works.

However, chief executive officers may, at their discretion, provide financial assistance to individuals in certain circumstances. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy, as a matter of urgency.
